 Mary Allbright

Hello, my name is Mary Allbright. I am 51 years young, been married for 27 years, have 2 daughters, 5 granddaughters, and 1 grandson. I had RNY ( gastric bypass) on May 1, 2009. My pre-surgery weight was 363 lbs. and my weight two years later is 212 lbs. My goal weight is 160 lbs., so I am about 50 lbs. away from goal. I was on steroid therapy for about 5 years and gained over 200 lbs. The last year or so before my WLS I was in a power chair because I was unable to walk more than 25 feet without stopping to breathe and let my heart slow down. I had become a recluse because it was so hard to leave the house to go anywhere. This surgery has literally saved my life. I was dealing with high blood pressuresleep apnea, pain, fibromyalgia, depression, and many other secondary health problems. WLS has allowed me to live my life again. I am able to enjoy my family, my grandchildren especially, and my friends. Congratulations on making such a wonderful life changing and lifesaving decision.

I have suffered from obesity my entire life, since I was a young child. As I got older, I continued to gain weight, until I became morbidly obese. I first read about weight-loss surgery on the internet in 2000 and researched it for years. I was supposed to have surgery in 2005, however due to illness it was canceled. I gave up. Then, I got a new job in 2005, but the copay on my insurance plan was not affordable. I was determined to have WLS and planned it for 2 years, researching my choice of health insurers at my company and finding a local surgeon. I had RNY on October 27, 2008. At that time, I was over 300 pounds, with numerous medical conditions, such as uncontrolled type II diabetes, asthmahigh blood pressurehigh cholesterolsleep apnea, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, PCOS,  and leg swelling. My proudest accomplishment so far is that I was able to reverse my health problems. Prior to surgery, I was on 3 insulins, injecting myself 5 times daily and 1 oral medication. I realize now I was not living, but existing. Taking care of myself and my health made me re-evaluate my entire life. I have lost over 100 pounds and still work daily toward my personal weight goal, which includes making healthy food choices and regular exercise. My personal story has also been published in the book, Lifechoices: Navigating Difficult Paths. (www.lifechoicesbook.com).

  Amanda Seiler-Carey

Hi there my name is Amanda Seiler-Carey, people call me, mom, honey, wife, or friend.  First off, I am a mother of 3 beautiful children.  I am a wife to the best man in the world, of 12 yrs now.  I am a friend.  I will be there for you no matter what.  I am also a Gastric Bypass Post op'er!  I had life saving surgery on October 25, 2010.  Best day of my life, that was my re-birth.

I have always been a "bigger" girl, never picked on any teams, nor asked over to sleep overs because I was fat.  I didnt fit in with alot of people, but there were a few that accepted me for me.  Seriously I can count them on one hand!

Anyhow, I had children, married the man of my life, had more children LOL and then one day back in 2003 after I had my last child, I was working out, going to the gym, doing whatever I could to get down.  I had slimmed down from about 365 lbs to about 295 lbs, which for me was amazing.  I hadnt weighed 295 lbs since elementary school no joke.

Anyhow, June 8, 2009, I rushed my husband into the ER because we "thought" he was having a gall blader attack....Well little did we know that day changed our life forever.  He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon and liver cancer.  Yeah I know right...WTH are you talkin bout cancer.....that didnt fit into our plans, we had to much to do, to much to see, we had to raise our kids.  This was a nightmare, and I knew I was going to wakeup.  Well I was awake alright and it never changed.   I was by his side day and night for 3 weeks while he was in the hospital.  My life as I knew it was over.  They told us to prepare for the worst and get our lives in order because he had maybe 6 months to live.  Being devistated was a total understatment.  Anyhow, I totally put my life on hold and it was all about him, and well that meant my weight loss too.  I ballooned up to a whopping 402 lbs.  YeAH in little over a year.  CRAZY!

Anyhow, we went on, so did his chemo treatments and the fight.  3 heart attacks later, stints, chemo, we finally got the updated insurance booklet and I was screaming and crying all at the same time, we were paying for insurance through the "cobra" program at his work, because he had to quit work and I remember on page 52 it read, We will take a case by case look at any weight loss surgery patients....WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW is all I could say, so with tears in my eyes, I told him.  And the rest is history.

I went to all my seminars, did all the paperwork, had a great doctor, no issues with getting approval at all!!! It only took 4 weeks to get the answer back.  And October 25, 2010 I was REBORN a NEW WIFE, A NEW MOTHER, AND MOST OF ALL A NEW PERSON!

I may only be 8 months out, but ive lost 120 lbs thus far and only have 90 more to hit my goal and I still have 4 months to do it in!!!!

I am here to help you in anyway I possibly can, that makes my journey that much more enjoyable!!!

My name is Lynne.I am 58 married but no children.I volunteered to mentor because when I had my surgery in the mid 80's I had no one to help or advise me. I was on my own and did not develop the best habits for a healthy life. I lost 80 lbs. the first year and 60 the next. I let myself plateau at 235 and stayed near that for 25 years.Bad eating choices and fear kept me from going any lower but for my height 160 would have been ideal.I was diagnosed with Lupus and the steroids I need from time to time caused me to regain 60 pounds.I have recently lost 26 lbs and am working to return to a healthier weight. The surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself !
